ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සියළුම ක්‍රිස්තියානි ජනතාව ජේසුස් ක්‍රිස්තුස් වහන්සේගේ උපන් දිනය සලකණු කරන මේ අවස්ථාවේදී, නත්තල් සාරධර්ම අපේ සිහියට නැගේ.  නිහතමානීකම, තම අසල්වාසියා සමඟ සමඟිය, වරදවා තේරුම් ගැනීම් හා එදිරිවාදීකම් සමථයකට පත්වීම, පවුලේ එකමුතුකම මේ උතුම් දිනයේ අරුත සනිටුහන් කරයි. සියළුම කිතුණු පල්ලි, මේ දිනයේ උත්සවකාරී ස්වරූපයට වඩා ආගමික වතාවත් හා දේව භාෂිතය මෙනෙහි කිරීමට වැඩි අවධානය යොමු විය යුතු යැයි කියා තිබෙන අතර, අප සියළු දෙනාම ඒ උපදෙසට ගරු කල යුතුය.

ජේසුස් ක්‍රිස්තුස් වහන්සේට මුලු මානව වර්ගයාටම වලංගු පණිවිඩයක් තිබුණි. බොහෝ මනුෂ්‍යයන්, තමන්ගේ වැරදි නොදකින අතර, අනුන්ගේ වැරදි පමණක් දකී. ජේසුස් වහන්සේ කන්ද උඩ දේශනයේ අපට කියා දුන් ප්‍රධානම ඔවදනක් වන්නේ අනුන් විනිශ්චය කිරීමට තමන් පාවිච්චි කරන මිණුම් දණ්ඩ තමන්ටද ආදේශ වෙන බවය. තමන්ගේ ඇසේ තිබෙන ලී කොටය දකින්නේ නැති අය අනුන්ගේ ඇසේ තිබෙන තිත දකින බවද උන්වහන්සේ අපට කියා සිටියේය. අද උද්දච්ච කමෙනුත්, තමන් පමණක් නිවැරදිය යන මතයෙනුත් අන්ධ වී සිටින මනුෂ්‍යන්ට ජේසුස් ක්‍රිස්තුස් වහන්සේගේ පණිවුඩය විශේෂයෙන්ම වලංගු වේ.

කිතුණු ධර්මයේ මේ පූජනීය දිනය සමරණ සියළුම ලක්වාසී කිතුණු බැතිමතුන්ට මගේ උණුසුම් සුභාසිංශන පිරිනැමීමට මම කැමැත්තෙමි.  ඔබ සැමට සුභ නත්තලක් වේවා!

Christmas Message

As the Christian people of Sri Lanka mark the day on which the Lord Jesus Christ was born, we are reminded of the values of Christmas – humility, family togetherness, fellow feeling with one’s neighbours, the resolution of misunderstandings and enmities. All Christian Churches have sought to emphasise prayer and reflection on Christmas day rather than the celebratory aspect – a wish we should all respect.

The Lord Jesus Christ had a universal message for mankind.  All human beings are in their folly, quick to judge others without noticing their own errors. Lord Jesus Christ said in the Sermon on the Mount  “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?” This message of Jesus Christ has a special relevance today when people are blinded by their own arrogance and self-righteousness.

I convey my warmest greetings to the Christian people of Sri Lanka marking this holiest and most significant of days and wish everyone a peaceful and happy Christmas.
