The sudden death of Vishwalingam Gopidas, a British citizen Sri Lankan Tamil national prisoner, who was arrested by the CID at Katunayake Airport on 4th April 2007 and then his sudden death on the 24th February 2014 at Magazine Prison in Colombo, has been revealed as a murder and a lot of confidential information has been revealed about the accused behind it.
Vishwalingam Gopidas, who had moved to Great Britain from Jaffna, came back to Sri Lanka in 2007 to start VG Holding Company with the son of a Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sirisena Herath. While doing this business, he befriends with Ravichandran alias Celtel Ravi, he is caught by the police while traveling in the car bearing WP HM **** belonging to Celtel Ravi with a lot of high-tech equipment.
Celltel Ravi has visited Jaffna and met Gopidas’ wife after Gopidas was imprisoned for five years under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. Ravi has obtained 237 pounds of gold jewelries and signed cheques from Gopidas wife promising to save Gopinath by paying off the police and the prison authorities.
“Save me with the money you took from me” one day Gopidas rebuked Ravichandran when he came to get treatment at the heart unit of the Colombo National Hospital. But it has been revealed that Ravi who did not care about Gopidas for five years, has made a deal with the prison intelligence and investigation Unit to kill Gopidas inside the prison. Gopidas, who was sentenced to five years of hard labor, was scheduled to be released on parole only a few months after the murder.
Murder inside the prison
The then 43 year-old prisoner Vishwalingam Gopidas, a British citizen and a resident of Jaffna, was found dead in the prison toilet. The body was found on the 2th morning, the prison authorities told the media at that time. The death was suspected to be a murder and protests were even held.
Although the death of Gopidas was a murder, the investigation officers too have worked to cover up this murder. The courts too has contributed to the cover up to this inhumane murder by not doing the judicial medical examination the place where the deceased person is said to have fallen during the inquest of the magistrate. The then Commissioner General of Prisons told the media that the cause of death was a heart failure.
A day before Vishwalingam Gopidas was killed, he was taken for questioning by the prison intelligence of the prison, where he was beaten to death and then brought back to prison. The body of Gopidas was left in a toilet, the Borella police were called at 7.46 am on the 24th and informed a prisoner had fallen inside the toilet and died while being taken to the hospital. The prison guards have fabricated a false flag.
Before the killing Vishwalingam Gopidas, he has informed in writing on two occasions that Celltell Ravi is going to kill him and he has also informed the British High Commission and his family that Celtel Ravi is trying to steal the gold and money from him for a long time hence Ravi too has publicly threatened Gopidas and the writer have many evidences in this regard.

After this death, Ravi, who has visited Singapore has confessed his complicity to a friend during a boozing party. The latter has sobbed about taking money from Gobidas’ wife. Seltel Ravi has also explained how a customs officer who is a friend of his friend Atula Senarath got money by blackmailing him. He has promised that he will return all the gold and the money taken from Gopidas wife when he receives money.
However there is no way for Ravi to return the money took from Gopinath wife. He has never had a job, His work was to snatch and trap mobile data of elite people and taking ransoms by blackmailing.
Celltel Ravi has also been involved in an arms deal that took place in the Empire luxury apartment complex in Kollupitiya owned by the owner of Wheels Lanka, Imthiyas, who gave money to the Tawheed Jamaath organization involved in the Easter attack.
