Published on: Oct 19, 2018- Diplomatic sources says that Indian intelligence RAW played a decisive role to elect Maithripala Sirisena as the opposition’s common candidate during the 2015 presidential election.
India based on the intelligence report given by RAW, proposed the common candidate proposal to the then opposition leader Ranil WIckramasinghe.
Diplomatic sources reports it was the RAW’s intelligence information which led Ranil Wickramasinghe to change his decision to contest as the presidential candidate.
Under this context, the diplomatic sources are highly concerned of the president’s statement that RAW is trying to kill him. The diplomatic sources further said although the cabinet issued a new statement denying president’s allegation, it is hard to remove the blot.
Meanwhile the Indian security chiefs of India have made a special request from the GOSL to produce all information regarding the assassination plot to kill president Sirisena by RAW as alleged by the president.
The Indian security chiefs have officially informed this request to the Prime Minister’s office and to the foreign ministry through the Indian high commission on the 17th.
