After the Basil-Ranil meeting, our political reporter revealed that Ranil Wickramasinghe has started an operation of betraying the Pohottuwa group who gossiped with the President against the Rajapaksa. For the past two months, a group of MPs from Pohottuwa secretly met with Ranil Wickramasinghe and held various discussions, which was spearheaded by Nimal Lansa, who was close to the national organizer of the Pohottuwa, Basil Rajapaksa.
Nimal Lansa has started a campaign showing that about 50 MP’s attached to Pohottuwa like to directly join and work with president Ranil Wickramasinghe. As a result an election office has even been secretly started to present Ranil as the common candidate of the government and its supporters. The election office has been set up at 118 Lake Drive Road, Colombo and Nimal Lansa has been the leader in getting it and organizing the office.

In addition to Lansa, Prasanna Ranatunga, who was convicted by the court as a notorious extortionist and was liable for the biggest fine in the history of Sri Lanka, has also played a big role in this. Prasanna also revealed that Ranil Wickramasinghe will soon give cabinet positions to some members selected from that group.
Basil Rajapaksa, the unofficial leader of Pohottuwa, has warned many times about this but this group, knowing that it is safe to be with the president who is cunning as a fox, has continued to ignore the warnings.
Basil Rajapaksa had gone to meet the President to discuss this and the meeting has taken place on the 30th. During the meeting Ranil Wickramasinghe has stated that he did not launch any conspiracy against Rajapaksa or Pohottuwa. However, he said that he had met and discussed with several Pohottu mp’s and the group of mp’s were willing to support him (Ranil). A close associate of Basil told our reporter that Ranil told Basil that he had asked him to give strong cabinet ministers to a few selected MP’s.
The relevant MPs who met with Ranil and their requests as well as the matters discussed have been disclosed to Basil by Ranil “I have done my job… now you take care of them,” Ranil emphasized to Basil.
Ranil has also expressed his agreement to publicly reveal about the Pohottu MPs who are plotting against him, and accordingly, on the 9th of August, Ranil who was appointed as the president by the Pohottu,made a public statement in the Parliament and through that, Ranil has made to expose the people who conspired against Basil in the Parliament.

The operation of ending Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s scenario, moving the Rajapaksa to safe places as well as subtly transferring power from Gota to Ranil happened through Basil Rajapaksa, the former finance minister and the founder and theoretician of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. It is no secret that the agreements reached between Basil and Ranil are more than the thickness of Rajapaksa’s blood.
In the current state of UNP, SJB and Pohottuwa’s presidential candidacy in the next presidential election, the negotiations required for the candidacy to Basil or Ranil have even been completed.
