Sri Lanka is the only bankrupt country in Asia. It has been almost 20 months since Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe officially announced that Sri Lanka is a bankrupt state. But it is doubtful whether President Ranil Wickremesinghe has a true desire to save the country from bankruptcy.
There does not seem to be any such desire in his behavior. He wants to have “fun” with his friends at least once a month. Regardless of the country, he goes for a ride around the world every month with some of his good pals. How such leaders can build countries?
Some people say that this is Ranil Wickramasinghe’s international connections. A country builds international relations or strengthens existing relations to make their countries win-win. But Ranil Wickremesinghe used every visit to put the country in a Win-Lose situation. The only purpose of his travels is to find buyers to sell the few remaining resources of the country. Ever since Ranil Wickramasinghe has come to power, he has tried to do the duty of sales representative. He has no vision to build the country.
Ranil always sold the resources of the country..
Ranil Wickramasinghe recently went to India and agreed to write down all the land, ocean, natural resources, sunlight and wind of the two eastern and northern provinces to India. All he did was sell the country’s resources. After coming to power in 2015, Hambantota Port was sold to China for less than the appraised value. Higurana and Sevanagala sugar companies were sold to their friends for looting. How many other state resources have been alienated by him?
Ranil Wickremesinghe has been on at least one foreign trip every month since the day Ranil Wickramasinghe was “elected” by 134 Pohottu MPs. Along with him, several members of the presidential staff led by security officers, several ministers and deputy ministers must participate as porters for these trips. Their plane tickets,subsistence allowances etc. are borne by the common people who pay taxes in this country. Under the Right to Information Act, the Information Officer of the President’s Office should be asked to provide separate details on how much money the government has spent on President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s foreign trips and how much money has been spent on his entourage.
After America to Germany
Ranil Wickremesinghe, who attended the 78th session of the United Nations in New York last week (September 18), will return to Germany on September 27 after a few days. There is no question of heads of state going on such trips. But Ranil Wickramasinghe’s visits are just visits and have not been of any use for the good of the country so far. It is often felt that he is participating in various conferences by forcefully obtaining an invitation through the embassies. It is an open secret that some people in Sri Lanka do so.
Domestic debt is rising.
The central bank says that the public debt of the government is 91 billion dollars. Domestic debt continues to rise. Every citizen of the country is carrying a per-capita debt of slightly more than 1.4 million rupees. Of the country’s 22 million population, seven million (1/3) live below the poverty line. It means that the monthly income of a family of four (Household) is less than 13,777 rupees. Hospitals in the country are closing due to shortage of medicines and unable to repair machines.
Professionals are leaving the country unable to bear the tax burden. The rulers of the country have no responsibility regarding these. However the people suffer there is no change in the behavior of the rulers and the extravagant lives they lead. If they have changed, President Ranil Wickremesinghe will not rob the country’s national wealth by taking members of other political parties on foreign trips to please them to sustain his presidency. The people of the electoral districts they represent should understand this and resolve not to re-elect such thieves to parliament.
They are having “fun” by asking the people of the country to tighten their belts
There were times when Mahinda Rajapaksa took UNP MPs like John Amaratunga on foreign trips. It is needless to say that Ranil Wickramasinghe took Pohottu MPs Mahinda Nanda Aluthgamage, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, SJB MP Vadivel Suresh and another Muslim party MP toparticipate in the 78th United Nations Conference. Foreign Minister Ali Sabri has also taken his son to the United Nations conference, it was spread on social media. What does all this indicate? Aren’t they all big crooked politicians? They are having “fun” by asking the people of the country to tighten their belts. When will the people of this country understand this?
Ranil’s own utopian arrogance
When Ranil Wickramasinghe gets the power he needs to enjoy his hobby to the fullest. Therefore, Ranil Wickramasinghe’s only joy is to visit to different countries and hold talks (talk shops) and enjoy himself. When Ranil Wickramasinghe gets power, he behaves in his own utopia and arrogant manner. The people of the country kicked him out of politics in 2020 not with the intention of returning to parliament. Somehow, with the help of foreign intelligence services, he destabilized the country and ascended to the presidency. It’s not too late. It is the responsibility of the intelligent people of Sri Lanka to take action to expel this traitorous ruler and the opportunist politicians who are gathered around him in such a way that he will not reappear in the upcoming elections.
